Bunaken Seascape

Bunaken seascape covers the waters surrounding the islands of Bunaken, Manado Tua, Siladen and Mantehage. It is a diving paradise. Biologically rich fringing reefs and lagoons are scattered within an easy reach from one island to another. The seascape is not just flat, most of them are, but there are hectares of sloping and vertical fringing reefs with highly diverse fish, coral and sponge communities. It is a stunning magnet for tourists.

There are about 70 genera of corals in the area. The figure may easily exceeds 100 with a thorough examination in the whole region. As a comparison, Hawaii Islands has only ten genera of corals. About three quarters of all fish species known to the western Indo-Pacific region is found in Bunaken seascape. Around the Bunaken Island alone there are about 2,500 species of fish.
